Russian Grand Prix among juniors

The Junior Grand Prix in figure skating is an analogue of the regular Grand Prix, in which adult figure skaters compete. The organizer of such tournaments is the ISU. The first Grand Prix among juniors was held in 1997/98. Since then it has been organized every year.

How is the Junior Grand Prix going?

The competition takes place in several stages - small tournaments between skaters. At all stages of the Junior Grand Prix, medals are drawn in four main disciplines. These are single programs for boys and girls, pair performances and ice dancing. Therefore, the success of the competition depends on the skill of athletes in different types of competitions. The Junior Grand Prix in figure skating is held in 7 stages. They are organized in different cities and can take place at different times.

As a result of performances at the stage, the skaters are awarded points, in accordance with the places taken. In all disciplines, 6 athletes or couples participate. Those of them who scored the most points at the Junior Grand Prix in figure skating go to compete in the final tournament. It gathers the winners of different stages. The final competition is called the “Junior Figure Skating Grand Prix Final”. It is worth noting that for the past few years the final has been held in parallel with the adult tournament. Same arena, same dates.

Selections for the adult Grand Prix are held according to the rating of athletes. However, participants in junior competitions are determined by the Federations of each country separately. Participants must be between 13 and 19 years of age. When performing in pairs or dancing, the age can be up to 21 years for young people.
