Russian Grand Prix in Figure Skating: Interim Results
Before the 2022/23 season, the tournament was called Russian Cup, but despite the changed name, the format remained the same - both adults, established and titled athletes, and juniors who are just rising as stars on the sports horizon participate in the competition.
The 2024/25 season will have five stages, which will be held in five cities of Russia: Magnitogorsk, Krasnoyarsk, Kazan, Moscow and St. Petersburg. The final will be held on February 14-16, 2025 in Novosibirsk at the home stadium of the hockey club "Sibir", "Sibir Arena". Juniors will have the sixth stage - in the capital. Each athlete can be registered for no more than two stages of the series. Based on the results of the performances, it will become clear which of the athletes will be able to participate in the Russian Championship and the National Championship. These competitions will begin next year, and the Grand Prix will be the first stage.
Most of this season's tournaments have already passed. The top 15 duets participating in the 2025 Russian Championship are represented by 10 coaching groups - such a variety of schools is very pleasing and means that there is no decline in our country in this sport. Unlike last year, many newcomers are participating in this year - seven new duets also became a pleasant discovery of the competition. The duets of coach Alexander Zhulin won both stages again. First place - Ekaterina Mironova/Evgeny Ustenko, second - Anna Shcherbakova/Egor Goncharov, and those who were predicted to win gold, Elizaveta Pasechnik/Dario Cinzano, are only third after two stages.
As expected, Eteri Tutberidze took the most medals among the singles coaches. Her athletes Adelia Petrosyan, Daria Sadkova, Anna Frolova, Alina Gorbacheva, Veronika Yametova and Ksenia Gushchina were all awarded medals.
Alexei Mishin's group was the brightest in men's singles skating, thanks to the performances of the talented Zhenya Semenenko and Gleb Lutfullin. In second place, with a minimal gap, are Svetlana Sokolovskaya's trainees with stunning performances by Mark Kondratyuk and Grigory Fedorov.
Out of a total of 125 medals, 26 were won by Tutberidze's school students - as last year, Eteri Georgievna's trainees are beyond competition. But the Grand Prix final is ahead, so the intrigues are still there, and the spectators can expect spectacular, exciting performances by the best Russian figure skaters. This is more important now than ever, because for almost three years now our athletes have been deprived of the opportunity to participate in international competitions. This is a big blow to the careers of many. In addition, after the Tokyo Olympics, Kamila Valieva, who was disqualified for a doping scandal, still cannot take part in competitions. The athlete was suspended from the sport for four years, and the disqualification will end only next year, and this year Valieva can only watch her colleagues perform on the ice.
